Let’s Talk About Care

Working on care ethics? I’d love to hear about it.

One of the great joys of my career has been talking with graduate students and young scholars who are thinking about care. Your questions sharpen my own thinking, and your projects remind me how much good work is happening in this field. If you are writing a thesis, dissertation, article, or grant proposal that engages care ethics or care theory, I would be glad to talk with you.

What we might talk about

  • Finding your way into the care ethics literature, and which thinkers fit your project

  • Testing an argument, a chapter outline, or a research question

  • Connecting care theory to your own discipline, whether philosophy, nursing, education, social work, business, the arts, or elsewhere

  • Jane Addams, feminist pragmatism, embodiment, and Merleau-Ponty

  • Conferences, journals, and scholarly networks where care work is welcome

How it works

  1. Send me a short email: who you are, where you study, and a paragraph about your project.

  2. Tell me what would help most, whether that’s a single conversation, feedback on a short piece, or simply some reading suggestions.

  3. We’ll set up a Zoom call or continue by email, whichever suits you.

There is no cost and no formal commitment. You don’t need to be at Portland State, and you don’t need to be a philosopher. Students from any country and discipline are welcome.
